Do u still wanna visit Europe?

Mmmm… I remember when I was much younger, I used to daydream about visiting Europe…

You did?

Yeah. It was such a dream… until one day, another friend came back from visiting, and she made it sound so uncool.

She was like “After a while it’s all just old buildings” — but at the time I felt very hurt by her comments.

I felt like, wow, she kinda put a damper on the dream I had…

It was all still very romanticised in my mind before that. And tho I didn’t study ancient history, I felt drawn to it at the thought of visiting and learning all about it…

But the way that “friend” talked about it — and I guess other friends’ reactions to her comments reinforcing that sentiment, you know what, it was like all these little girls “outgrowing” the romanticised dream of Europe, but I was still stuck there until they said it.

But also at the same time, I felt like, but I’m the only one who hasn’t even been to Europe.

I still haven’t!

So they all enjoyed themselves in the “Europe: been there, done that! Just old buildings! We’re too cool for that now!” Club. And I just felt like… I haven’t even been there to concure with that judgement.

And you know, when I think about when I’m in Melbourne, or Sydney, even Brisbane or Adelaide — where there is similar, tho of course not nearly as old, old buildings… I don’t mind it.

I’ve never walked past the sandstones in Melbourne feeling like “oh there is only so much I can take of historical old buildings!”

I don’t even know how they came to those conclusions!

Like is that an inside joke that started amongst those in their tour groups? I wouldn’t know. But somehow that friend came back to Australia making that joke and everyone else laughed along and agreed with her?

Like they’re so cool, they got to experience it to take it for granted.

And I really wanted to share that with you.

Sometimes, it feels like I have fake friends.

Lol… whoever that person was… I don’t care about them. I just wanna take u to the places that reminded me of you whenever I visited Europe… I wanna show you in person because when I was at those places, I thought, “Ahhh… my darling would love this!” And I made so many notes. I HAVE MULTIPLE ITINERARIES!!!

Ur friends sound like they don’t know you at all. I can think of so much of Europe that you would enjoy. And you wouldn’t get sick of it as “so many old buildings” — those people sound like they have no imagination.

It’s like I threw away that European dream when that “friend” made fun of it and I felt so embarrassed that I had it built up in my mind even though I still haven’t visited for myself to compare.
