How was the interview, my love?
It wasn’t a formal interview…
No?
No, it was just a casual chat…
A casual chat with CEO Aunty?
LOL… she saw my phone, and she’s like “Let me have a look at your phone!”
I said “Aunty! I’m a little embarrassed to show you!” And she said, “I’m not going to think anything!” — And she took it and flipped it open and MY LOCK SCREEN IS A PICTURE OF YOU!!!
(oops!!) HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! ^0^
What did she say!?
Nothing!!! She just saw it and didn’t say anything. She asked, “Is this Samsung?!” I said, “Yes!”
LOL — that’s the extent of the conversation?!?!?!
(Sigh)…
There was some other stuff…
So, do you have the job?
Umm… it’s 99.99% yes… I just don’t have anything in writing yet, my love. So I’m not going to tell my current employer yet. I did tell them, my current employer needs 2 weeks notice. They said they understand and the timing suits them as well. They will sort out all that paperwork soon, for me…
Oh?
I have a choice.
What choice?
They asked if I wanted casual or permanent part-time?
Ooh…? What do you think?
Well, I initially thought casual but then they mentioned permanent part-time I get annual leave and sick days… etc…
I think that sounds better.
You think so?
Well… it’s just more stability, isn’t it?
Mmmm… I’m gonna think about it for a few days. They said, no rush — we mutually have an agreed upon understanding official start is in July.
ALREADY?! YOU TALKED ABOUT ALL THAT?!?!?!?! I THOUGHT THIS WAS JUST A CASUAL CONVERSATION?!
LOL… This is Taiwanese “casual” conversation!!! ^0^ What are you so surprised about?!?!?!?!
It feels really direct?!
Is it?! I don’t think so… I think it’s really Taiwanese… LOL……… (more chuckles)……………..
You already talked about pay rates, and contracts, and start dates… did you talk about actual shift days?
Yes — and it suits me so well, my love.
They’re specifically looking for someone to fill in on Thursdays and Fridays, and if I resign from my current employer, THOSE ARE THE DAYS I’LL BE FREE. It doesn’t clash with my studies at all.
Oh… so that’s what you want…
Yes… I did talk about my longer term intentions, with what I’m studying… and they said they understand…
Hmmm? What else?
The Acquaintance has a lot on their mind. I gave them like, THREE hugs?! We’re re-acquainted like old distant cousins. I totally get where they’re coming from, what they’re needing… I do think we’ll work well together… They have a lot of long-term ambitions… Long-term projects they want to implement… They’re gonna be… busy…………..
That doesn’t sound like a casual role for you at all. That sounds like permanent part-time will evolve into permanent full-time.
Hmmmm…. I’m not sure about THAT — I think that’s another extreme…
They could just hire another part-timer…
How do you know they’re permitted that much head count?
You’re right, I don’t know. Maybe they’re not. Maybe it’s just part-time pay for a full-time bandwidth, I don’t know.
Is it the type of job that you just clock off and go home and forget about it?
(Sigh)… probably not…
I mean, some days… I don’t know… half-half?
I think as a part-timer they would give me that space, though… It won’t be like a full-time commitment…
So, that’s good then?
Yeah. I guess I’ll accept the part-time offer… annual leave and sick days… it’s still… a good basis?
Yeah… we can travel around your annual leave…
Mmmm… we can…..
What else are you thinking?
I’m thinking — I’m wondering if I’m going to get an actual job related to what I’m studying or if I’m permanently, PERMANENT in this job?! Like for a lot longer than I expected?!
Do you think… that might be happening?
Well, my love, most jobs have a 3 to 6 months probation. Maybe I will have as well. I haven’t seen anything IN WRITING — this kind of stuff, we didn’t quite get to…
What else do they need you to do?
LOL… stuff that I’ve already predicted…
How do you know them so well?!?!
I already INTERNED there FOR FREE when I was younger, my dear!
Oh?!
Yeah — I know their office procedures. It’s not like entering a completely new job…
Going back today, you know what it reminded me of?
It kind of reminded me of “The Potato Lab” and their working environment. It’s a friendly team. Without the office romance.
Oh, friendly like in The Potato Lab?!
That’s as close to a dramatised example as I can think of for you to relate to, my love… It’s not EXACTLY the same — but something along those lines…
Maybe 30% similar…
(Chuckles)… well that makes me feel better for you…
Does it?!
Yes — WITHOUT the office romance, right?!
Yes, of course there’s no office romance!!!
Then I feel great about this for you, my love! I’m happy for you! I can’t wait for you to finalise everything in writing with both sides.
^___^ ❤ ❤ ❤
Well… the mutually agreed upon understanding is already July… so if anything is to be confirmed in writing it’ll be by… mid-June… a couple more weeks to figure out all the details…
You’ll sign a new contract…?
Well… if I get a letter of offer, I could probably already let the current employer know… I don’t want to jerk them around either. If I have a letter of offer, something tangible in writing, I’ll let them know.
Wow.
LOL… what?! It doesn’t affect YOU?!?!?! You’re still on tour!
I know but… it’s still a big change!
Yeah…
Are they the kind of coworkers that you’ll have a company dinner with here and there? Like in The Potato Lab?
Actually… yes… lol… maybe Taiwanese karaoke nights!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH ^0^
(LOL)… wow… okay… (bracing himself for this)…
DO YOU WANNA COME?!
If you’re gonna sing at Karaoke, of course!!!
Hmmm I might not tho. I’m shy these days… they’re just gonna sing popular Taiwanese songs…
That’s okay, I don’t mind listening to MandoPop!!!
HAHAHAHAHA… (Giggles)… ^__^ ❤ ❤ ❤
