The Penguin 🐧

Ur still thinking about that penguin?

Yes…

I think people who didn’t know it’s called leucism would easily call it an albino penguin.

But a true albino penguin would be pure white and possibly red eyes?

Ur not… that kind of scientist…

Ur right, this is just my own ponderings…

If penguins actually tanned, then the weetle one would still be able to tan. Because he has less melanin, but not none…

He would still get sun burnt quicker and faster than the other penguins, so he would still need to be more mindful about sunscreen and stuff like that.

Say there was a normal penguin, a leucism penguin and an albino penguin all standing in the sun at midday.

Maybe the normal penguin doesn’t get burned until 2 hours of sunlight. Maybe the leucism penguin takes 30 minutes to burn, and the albino penguin would be 5~10 minutes? Something like that.

Uhuh…

The more melanin, the longer it takes to burn.

But the less melanin, the faster the vitamin D absorption…

Uhuh… 😏💕

Melanin helps with other stuff too.

Like what?

I can’t remember…

Like actually holding colour in a spray tan or something?

Really?

I read somewhere…

Spray tans don’t last very long on true albinos… the colour doesn’t “hold” for very long. They would need constant top ups? Like every few days or once a week?

Uhuh…

I guess if u still have melanin but just less of it, the spray tan would hold slightly longer… 🤔

Lol…

Same with hair colour… it’s actually hard to dye albino hair. It will change colour but it won’t last that long?

Uhuh…

But if a penguin had leucism instead of albinism, the fur could be dyed and the colour lasts longer than on an albino penguin…

🤣🤣🤣 are we giving penguins spray tans and hair dyes?!

Lollll I’m mixing my thoughts around…

HAHAHAHHAHAHA…

😘❤️ I love u so much

🥰🥰🥰

If albinism is called albino then is leucism called leuco?

Hmmm…. I think it’s referred to as leucistic.

(Still googling)…

Ohhh… vitiligo is a form of leucism…

🤯

That means I was born slightly leucistic?!

You?!

Yes my love… I had white patches of skin when I was little… they didn’t know what was wrong with me…

Then they gave me vitamin D treatments and the patches went away…

🤔 is that…? I don’t know… 😅

Yeah I don’t know either… 🤷‍♀️

But it’s gone now, I don’t have vitiligo…

I think u were just low in vitamin D…

Ummm… I don’t know

I don’t think vitiligo goes away with vitamin D treatment…

Hmmm…

So a person with vitiligo technically has leucism but a leucistic person might not necessarily present with vitiligo…

Uhuh…

Ur following me?

I am… just barely… 😅

But it’s a genetic mutation…

Yeah…

They’re mutants

Lol no!!!!!!!! Don’t be mean!!!!!!!!

They’re like X-men...

Are they?

Lol, I dunno 😏

It’s not like albino is a recessive gene, it’s a genetic mutation that happens…

Uhuh…

Hmmm…

What about it?

I wonder what causes the mutation…

Ahh — now ur getting too deep

Well I wonder if it has anything to do with toxins in our modern lifestyles and if the toxins have now leached into the water affecting the penguin colonies and that’s how a genetic mutation has occurred amongst penguins?

Hmmmm… but u can’t really blame the parents of anyone who is leucistic like “oh their parents weren’t healthy”…

True…

This conversation isn’t really going anywhere…

Lol no it’s not… r u bored?!?!

Haha no… not bored… just wondering where ur going with these thoughts

Sometimes I don’t have a destination 😳

I’m just thinking random thoughts out loud…

If ur gonna be my husband, u’ll have to get used to it…

Is that gonna be okay?

🥰🥰🥰 yes!

(Brings her in closer to hug, squeeze and kiss) 😘😘😘😘😘😘😘❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
