Travel Rankings

Countries that I’ve been to and am happy to travel to again:

(The list excludes Australia and Taiwan as “home countries”)

  1. Japan
  2. United States
  3. Canada

… I think that’s about it?

That’s a very short list…

Well I haven’t been to that many countries!!!

You haven’t mentioned any countries in South-East Asia…

Ugh… do I have to rank them….?

Yeah, no, you don’t have to do a ranking for them — but would you go to South-East Asia again?

Of course! There’s just no ranking…

I think that, I’d like to visit South-East Asia again, but I’d prefer to visit countries that I haven’t been to… in that region…

Which countries haven’t you been to?

So this is in no particular order of preference, just a list as I think of them…

  • Thailand
  • Laos
  • Vietnam

I think that’s it?

So you’ve been to Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia…

And the Philippines…

Indonesia?

(Shaking head) No… I’ve never been to Indonesia… never did those Bali trips…

Why not?

I don’t know… (shrugs shoulders)… just never happened for me yet…

Do you want to go to Bali?

It’s really not on my priorities list…

Okay — back to other countries you’ve visited… so there’s no European countries in these rankings, because you’ve never been to Europe?

Yeah. I’ve never been to Europe… I wonder if I’m going to be 40 years old before I’ve ever even stepped on European soil…

That’s interesting — a lot of people have been to Europe…

I know! But not me… just hasn’t happened… (shrugs shoulders)…

Why do you think that is?

Because — I always in my mind — if I’m going to Europe — I want to enjoy it in luxury — I don’t want to go backpacking. I don’t want to do public transport. I don’t need that “pilgrimage” I just want to go enjoy the luxurious side of Europe.

The luxury side of Europe…

Yes… (smiles) you can afford it, no? Hunny Bunny?!

(Sheepish grin)… yes… I can afford it…

Well — it’s not on the priorities list either. Really, I don’t mind if I never go to Europe. It’s just there —

(Smiles) So why is JAPAN… number ONE…!?!?!?!?!?!?!!? Globally?!?!?!?!?!!?

Well because I don’t even have that many countries to compare it with if we’re talking about places I’ve been — Europe is completely out of the rankings because I’ve never even been… Your country’s not there because I’ve never even been…

So yeah, those three countries: Japan, United States, Canada — I’ve generally travelled there… so those are my rankings.

Okay. Why is America second and Canada third?

Well — Canada kind of just feels like a colder climate Australia…

Really?! Even the French-speaking part?

Oh — We need to make amendments — I’ve never been to the French speaking side of Canada. Only the English parts.

Oh… so that’s why you think it’s not that different to Australia…

Yeah — it’s not — it’s very… Australian-American, don’t you think?

(Chuckles)…

United States is second on that list but we gotta have another ranking of American states and cities — it’s a huge umbrella. There’s places in America that I’ll go again and places that are like, “meh” — you know what I mean?!

(Nodding)

We might even keep those rankings to ourselves, when we catch up face to face…

Okay… (smiles)…

I think that’s all my rankings for today…

All I learned in the last few posts was that you really, really, REALLY LOVE JAPAN

(Chuckles)… well maybe I do… I don’t know… maybe? Yes? (Smiling)…

At least you’re smiling…

Okay, fine. I LOVE JAPAN.

What difference does it make?!

I have no political agendas here. I’m just a regular ass bitch who loves Japan.

(Chuckles)

Some people… some people have a “chip on their shoulders” about Japan… some people are holding on to… past… tensions…

I don’t hold onto that… I don’t feel that way — my GRANDPARENTS forgave them — a long, long time ago.

If my own Grandfathers and Grandmothers — TAIWANESE GRANDPARENTS — could forgive them, then why shouldn’t I?

I don’t feel anything else about Japan.

I’ve experienced the country myself, I’ve visited with friends. I’ve enjoyed ALL my visits.

I’ve even had a Japanese exchange student stay at my parents’ house!

Wait — what?!?!

Okay, my love, that’s another day’s story…

When was this?!?!?!!?

High school — it was a high school exchange — another high school girl. And I’ve stayed at her home in Japan too.

Oh….

We were pen pals for a little while… back when people sent snail mail…

Oh?!

Yeah!!! I miss her now, thinking about it… we just kinda lost touch… but… I’ll always remember her and I hope I get to meet her again one day.

(Smiles) We’ll track her down…

LOL… it doesn’t have to be like that!

Okay… we’ll just… cross paths with her again… one day…

I wonder if she’s a fan of you?! I wonder if she has KIDS now, who might be fans?!?!?!

(Chuckles)…

Anyway — yes, I love Japan. Fine. I’ll own it. It’s my TRUTH. It’s not even fiction. I love Japan.

(Big smiles) Wow…

What?!!?!!?!?!?

I don’t think I know that many people — personally — who just “say that” —

You haven’t been back to Australia for ages! EVERYBODY IN AUSTRALIA LOVES JAPAN!!!

(Chuckles) They do?!?!?!!!?

OF COURSE!!! WHY WOULDN’T THEY?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! (Puzzled)?!?!?!?!

(Still laughing)…. ^0^
