Things To Do?

Things To Do?

What else is there to do in Taiwan?

Have you… just decided to go chill in Taiwan on your days off now?

Maybe… (sheepish grin)…

Okay… well… I can understand if you just want a break from your country sometimes… I get that…

I NEED A BREAK. I’ve discussed this with the bros. This is the best way that I don’t feel the burn-out. I need to physically remove myself from this country. Australia is too far — I’m not allowed to go away for that long — but I need a BREAK.

Yeah… and you don’t wanna go to Japan?

There’s no point. I have no attachment to Japan.

But I’m not there in Taiwan right now, either?!

Doesn’t matter. It’s your home country. I want to go and chill and explore the area… maybe even pick up a few words of the language…

Oh… I see… Okay then… umm…

I don’t think you would care to hang out at the department stores or places like that? It’ll be so similar to everywhere else in Asia…

Yeah. Nah. I’m not interested in places like that… I’ll go if you want to go but I won’t go alone.

Yeah… umm… how about the Buddhist temples?

Buddhist temples?

There are some pretty big ones that are “tourist” attractions — just go to those, at least once. At least you can say you’ve been to them once. And if you’re by yourself, incognito, it’s generally safe. People are generally nice — they’re Buddhists! — It should be a chill day.

(Nodding) Okay… I’ll look that up… anywhere else?

I don’t know if you’d be interested in Taiwanese museums and art galleries…?

Yes? I think so?

(Chuckles) Okay then? There’s usually English translations for the exhibits…

Okay… (nodding)… (making his mental notes)…

I think that’s it?! And you need to buy the traditional Chinese instruments. Maybe you need to go to other cities to buy them?

Really?!

Well… if you want good quality… I’m not sure if my city has the best artisans who make them?

(Chuckles) It’s just a hobby for me. I would never make any recordings of music to be released in MY country with those instruments. I’m kind of thinking of it like how you say people just go to Gold Coast and buy ukuleles from a souvenir store. I’m not taking it that seriously…

Hmm… (pouting)… but it means something to me… it’s my heritage… and if we are going to spend money on those instruments, they might as well be GOOD QUALITY instruments — ones that we can pass down to our kids or nieces or nephews…

Oh… (slow-blinking)… I didn’t think of it like that…

Yeah… so you could ask around, there might be artisans in other cities or even smaller towns — ones renowned for making the BEST of that instrument — really, really good quality.

I see… I see… (nodding) — actually making notes, not only mental notes — will go look this up properly…

It wouldn’t take long to get to the other cities. I know you don’t really want to explore other cities unless I’m there — but for those instruments — just go, have a look in person. Have a play — see if you like it, then buy it.

(Nodding) You’re right, I can’t be bothered going to other cities if you’re not there… but for those instruments… okay, I’ll go. I’ll treat it seriously like a business investment. Like if I’m going to feature one of these instruments in a music video, it better be GOOD QUALITY.

Yes… darling… that makes me feel better about it…

Anything else?

I can’t think of anything right now… maybe I’ll add more in another post at a later date.

Okay… I miss you already…

I know… I miss you too…
