Taiwan Snow

Taiwan Snow

What else can you tell me about Taiwan? I just want to change topics…

Well… there are hot springs…

There are?

Yes… I don’t know why I’m suddenly thinking about hot springs when Australia is so hot right now but yes… there are hot springs, and you don’t have to go naked like in Japan — you can just go… in… normal swimwear?! (Chuckles)

(Smiling)

It’s not taken as seriously as with Japanese… it’s just warm water… you can go in and enjoy… but… I think the men and women are still separated…

You haven’t been?

No, I’ve only heard friends talk about it. I haven’t actually been myself.

Is there snow in Taiwan? I probably could just Google this but I want to hear it from you…

Yes, there is snow in Taiwan… it’s not a lot… I’m literally googling now too to try and answer your questions, lol…

Why do you want to know if there’s snow in Taiwan?

I don’t know, just feeling curious about it…

There is a mountain called Snow Mountain — altitude of 3000 km — There seems to be some interesting stories by travellers on Trip Advisor…

There’s people saying you need to show ID to enter the mountain?

Yeah but they’re making it sound like it’s not just a normal thing to get into any National Parks or protected places in Taiwan. You need to show ID just to get into a big lake near our apartments in Taiwan — it’s not a big deal. (LOL) My parents’ apartment — the address that’s on the ID — it allows us to enter that lake area for free. Other people, show their ID, have to pay a fee to enter.

There’s an entrance fee to get into a lake area?!

It’s a protected national park, I guess…

Your parents live near a protected national park lake area place in Taiwan?

(Shrugs shoulders) Maybe…? Maybe it’s all fiction…

Do you want to go to that Snow Mountain one day? Together?

I’m not sure… it’s not urgent… I don’t feel any urgency towards it. I think it’s like… something that’s there… I don’t know… maybe… I can think of one cousin that we could go with, and we would feel safer in a group with her and her husband. I’m pretty sure she’s done it before.

Oh?

Yeah. She’s very athletic, and so is her husband…

Are you gonna tell me your cousins are like Taiwanese Olympians or something?

(LOL) No… they’re not at Olympics level… but they are athletic. They do like to exercise more than the average person… well, this particular cousin and her husband. They’re still normal people but they spend their free time on weekends or annual leave doing stuff like going to Snow Mountain for the fun of it. Yeah… they’re a very athletic couple… I don’t think I can keep up!?!?!?!? (Chuckles)

That’s okay. I’ll carry you up the mountain together. We can go with your cousin and her husband one day. I’m looking forward to it!!! (Smiling)

Did you know they packed like, “instant rice” — dehydrated rice, and you just have to add boiling water… instead of instant noodles, instant rice… and some snacks. Lots of trail snacks…

(Nodding) (Smiling) That’s cool…

You kind of want some more nature adventures, don’t you?

(Nodding) (Smiling) I’m sick of the city life…

Nobody would suspect it with all your smiles and energy up on stage every night… but if they think about it logically — it makes sense. It would make sense for any human. Heck, maybe Taylor Swift’s gone incognito to some mountains some days that we don’t even know about. Maybe Taylor and Travis went to the American Appalachians?! Grand Canyons? And nobody would really know… they probably just went incognito and blended in like everybody else…

Do you want to go there as well?

I’m not sure… It feels a bit foreign for me… Grand Canyons? Maybe…?

You haven’t been?

I don’t think so…

Not Appalachians?

Well — remember how I told you about the Instagram Influencer that died while caravaning with her boyfriend…?

(Chuckles) — Okay, we’re not going to the Appalachians…

(Nodding and nervous laughter) Yeah… no… it reminds me of that…

What happened with that case?!

I don’t know… I don’t even want to type their names on here… you can Google it…

Let’s keep talking about Taiwan. Where else do you like to go?

Hmmm… there is a place… called 美濃 which is a more quaint… village type of small town…

You know how I told you that my Dad’s side is “Hakka” — ?

(Nodding)

美濃 has like, museums and places explaining Hakka culture… it’s got a higher population of Hakka people… restaurants with Hakka food…

You’ve been before?

Yes, my parents took me there often. I have fond memories of my childhood — learning about Hakka culture in 美濃
