Did you know, when my brother got married to my sister-in-law, it took him a few months to fully move all his stuff out of my parents’ house? To this day, there’ll be random days of de-cluttering and me and Mum are like, “Who’s random thing is this?!” “Oh it must be your brother’s…” And then we text him, he’s like “Yeah I don’t care, just throw it out or donate it…”
Your brother wasn’t living with your sister-in-law when they were already engaged?
They were a lot younger than what you and I are now… It’s fairly normal for Asian families… Yeah, he was still technically living at home… When they married.
Do you still want to be… technically… still living at home… until…?
Maybe until the Courthouse…
You think so?
Well — isn’t it too rushed, otherwise? And even after the Courthouse — you’re busy. You’re on TOUR. — I’ll be going back and forth between ours and Mum’s… all the time… I can see that happening…
And the dog?
I don’t really want to bring the dog…
(LOL) Why not?!
(Sigh) It’s better if he’s with Mum when she’s back anyway. They can keep each other company…
(Nodding) (Shrugs shoulders) Okay…? Do you want our own puppy?
(Shaking head) No… not this year… It’s too much. I don’t want that right now…
A fish tank? Some little mice or a bird?
No… No pets. Maybe a robot dog?
A robot dog?
Yeah… Sony Aibo… but you have to get it from Japan and with the adaptor for the Australian power outlet thingy…
(Nodding) What colour?
(Smiles) Surprise me.
How long do you think it will take you to fully move out?
Probably… well, hopefully 90% of it by 2026… and then the rest by the circus in 2027?
You think so?
Yeah. I mean — in between that time, my parents are probably going to sell the house anyway and downsize… They’re getting so much older, they don’t want to maintain a big, big house. Especially if I’m not even in it anymore… And this also depends on the dog…
THE DOG?!?!?!
It feels… cruel… to move the dog… He’s geriatric in dog years…
Right… So you don’t want to introduce the dog to a new house.
No — I don’t think he can even see that well. He’s moving around based on his nose… based on knowing where all the furniture is…
Okay… but at least he has your Mum.
(Nodding) He’ll have Mum when she flies back later this year… in the next few months, maybe…
She still hasn’t booked her flights?
No… (Chuckles)… you’ll get used to my family being really, really, really last minute with flights bookings… (LOL)
Oh?! (Surprised eyebrows)…
(Nodding)…………… Sometimes, my Dad will just suddenly show up. You don’t even get 24 hours notice…
(Chuckling)…
Yeah… Oh well?! (Shrugs shoulders) (Smiles)
