Why are we STILL talking about this?!
Because I’m planning it!!! I want to know EVERYTHING that I could be planning! Over these next months… I’m planning it!!! Give me the BONES of this wedding. So then I can flesh it out…
(LOL)
Why did you just title this “Dress Changes” — ?
Are there not a lot of dress changes in Korean weddings?
It depends… I haven’t actually been to that many Korean weddings, I don’t have any friends. I don’t really know.
You keep saying that but I wouldn’t be surprised if you end up with a 100-people guest list for your side at the reception yourself…
No way. I don’t have 100 friends to invite from my side.
What about your parents? Don’t they have people they want to invite?
Those people are in Korea! If we’re having the wedding in Australia and only Australia — they’re not coming to our wedding. And I don’t even care about them. I don’t need them to come to my wedding.
Surely your parents will fly out a few very close friends… friends of theirs?
(Thinking) Okay… maybe like… 10 people… that my parents would want to fly to Australia. They can pay for their own flights. They can pay for their own accommodation. Yes. Maybe my parents have one table of their friends… but that’s not 100+ guests.
I don’t know I just have a feeling you’re going to fill up your side eventually, somehow. Even if you just end up inviting your whole crew of backup dancers that normally tours with you.
(Surprised) (Amused) Oh yeah…? You think I could just invite them?! And their wives?!?!?!
(Shrugs shoulders) I don’t know. You keep saying you have NO FRIENDS. But you said earlier you didn’t mind inviting staff — some staff have been good to you — which staff are you referring to?!
I wasn’t thinking about the backup dancers when I said staff. I was thinking of the office staff.
Okay?! Well then why not also backup dancers who are technically “staff” — ?
(Nodding) Okay?! I could invite all the backup dancers and their wives to fill up my side…?
(Shrugs shoulders) Fine. Then it’s more balanced. I would just feel so weird if I have way more friends on my side… it should be more balanced…
Okay. I do have friends. The backup dancers are my friends!!!
(LOL) Anyway… we were talking about dress changes…
(Nodding) How many dress changes at a typical Taiwanese wedding reception?
(Sigh) The average person, maybe 3 or 4… some really rich Taiwanese… could be up to 9? 10? Once a really crazy rich girl had like 12?!?!!
12 DRESS CHANGES?!?!?!?!
Yeah — it was like a fashion show. I was like, “Wow… she’s going to get changed like, every 20 minutes?!”
(LOLOLOLOLOLOL)
And there was so many photographers — her family made it like a fashion show. Like a wedding themed fashion show. It didn’t feel like it was about “love” at all — I don’t want that. I don’t want that many dress changes.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA…………. What’s the normal sequence of dress changes? How are they integrating that into a wedding reception?
Well it depends on the order of events, right? If you cut the cake — you’re in a more simplified, but Western look, wedding dress. If it’s tea ceremony — you’re in Traditional Chinese Qi Pao. You know?!
(Nodding)
And then the entrance?! How are we entering the Reception?
I don’t know… what is your Vision?
Would it be weird if… YOU’RE wearing traditional Korean… whatever you guys wear… and I’M wearing traditional, really regal… Chinese Qi Pao type of dress?
(Eyebrows raising)… So it looks like a traditional Korean guy is marrying a traditional CHINESE woman?!?!?!
(Laughing) Is that weird?!?!?!?!!?!?!
I don’t know… maybe we need to Photoshop this and have a preview… what that would look like…
Okay, if it’s too costumey then we just enter with Western looks. Western style wedding entrance. Cocktail dinner evening party type of… simple, modern chic type of looks.
Oh… okay… Black tie? For me?
I don’t know. Whatever you want. Western… evening wear… for a Wedding reception…
I’ll discuss with some stylists…
But then when are we wearing traditional Korean clothes?
When we do the KOREAN part of the reception!
Right… but you haven’t told me what that is, yet?
(Nodding) We’ll talk about it more face to face…
Do I have to wear that… traditional dress…?
(Nodding) (Smiling)
(Shudders)
WHAT?!?! YOU DON’T WANT TO WEAR MY CULTURE ON OUR WEDDING NIGHT?!?!?!?!
(Laughing) I guess… I will have to…
(Jaw dropped but smiling) You don’t want to be KOREAN for even like, 5 MINUTES OF YOUR LIFE?!?!? ON OUR WEDDING NIGHT?!?!?!!?
Five minutes? Maximum? You promise?
(Deep breaths) How long will the Taiwanese Tea Ceremony with your parents be?
Probably five minutes. Around there.
Okay then. Both traditional cultural segments will be five minutes. Maximum.
(Nodding)
That’s fair.
It is…
Okay then… what else?
I don’t know… the dancing part… our dance… I guess I’m in a long gown… a bit glittery… maybe… like Taylor Swift? Grammys 2023?
That’s very specific.
Yes I like that fabric. I don’t like the midriff — I don’t wear that style. But I like the fabric and that colour and the sparkly details. I like that… deep, dark blue colour that she’s wearing… I think it’ll be nice for a dance…
(Nodding) (Going to save images of Taylor Swift Grammys 2023 for the mood board)…
I think that’s it.
You think so?
Well… I can’t think of that much else for now.
Okay then. Maybe that’s it for now.
Good… so I’ll go back to writing other random stuff after this post.
(Nodding) Okay. I have enough to start working on…
It shouldn’t feel like work! It’s supposed to be fun to plan a wedding.
It is! It’s FUN work for me. I’m having fun planning it.
Okay… good… because I don’t want people to say, “Who is this woman?! She’s making HIM plan for the wedding?!” When it’s YOU that WANTS to plan the wedding!!!
(Nodding) Yes, yes that’s true. It’s not even fiction. I’M the one who WANTS to plan the wedding!!! You’re finalising the last 10% of it when I’ve fleshed out the 90% but yes. I’m the one who wants to spend time on this. It matters TO ME. I want to do it! And I have the time to do it — as much as people don’t expect that I have the time to do it — I actually do have the time to do it. I WANT. TO PLAN. OUR WEDDING.
(Smiles) Love you…
Love you too!!! xoxoxoxoxoxox
…
Why don’t you care that much to plan our wedding? Isn’t it “every little girl’s dream” or something like that?
I’m almost 40… If we’re really getting married in 2027 I’ll be… 41?!!? Technically?!? When we get married if it’s in May?!?!! I’ll be 41. It’s okay, dude — I don’t “need” to plan this wedding. I’m so over weddings… I’ve been to way too many throughout my 20s and 30s.
(Nodding) (Smiling) I really haven’t been to that many weddings. I’m not kidding, I don’t have that many friends at all!
I know… I doubt that you don’t have that many friends. I’m sure you’ve been INVITED to heaps of weddings but you just didn’t show up…
True… I’ve had invitations… but I politely decline.
There? See? I knew you had to have a really large network. If you were the type of Crazy Rich Asian dude who ends up inviting ALL his work acquaintances?! We’d have those 3000 people crazy rich Asians wedding, wouldn’t we?!
(Smirk)
See?!?!?! I knew it.
But they’re not FRIENDS. I don’t feel close to ANY of them. I don’t want them at MY wedding.
(Nodding) Yeah… I wouldn’t want them there either. It’s too much… we’re just not that type of couple.
NO we are not!!! I love us the way that we are!!!
