I just showered…
Did you think about me?!
(Chuckles) A little bit… briefly…
Only briefly?!
Well, I also had to focus on exfoliating…
What products do you use to exfoliate?
Lately I’ve been using… Fenty Skin Cherry Dub Triple Action AHA Body Scrub…
That’s such a fuckin’ LONG ASS NAME for a product!
You’re right — I should’ve just said, “Fenty Skin Cherry Dub” — but there is a face or body version, and I’ve been using the body version for both face and body exfoliation… (LOL)
Okay… do you like Fenty?
Kind of, yes… I use some products… I like Rihanna… she’s a cool lady…
Any favourite songs?
Hmmm… Diamonds? (Okay, I’m going to add that to the list after I publish this!)
So you like Fenty… but…? I feel like there’s a but coming…
Well — I don’t love her packaging sometimes… I don’t know. I like the products. She has good products, but the packaging isn’t my favourite. Like if you read the ingredients of her products, they’re good products. It’s just not aesthetically that attractive to me as far as visual packaging goes. And sometimes the way they open and stuff — it’s just not always my favourite designs. It doesn’t feel ergonomic for me. But I still buy some of her products from time to time… the cherry scrub, I like the smell. It’s a nice smell so I like using it for exfoliating.
(Nodding) (No real thoughts… kind of mind blank, just keeps nodding)…
Anyway — after I exfoliate, I don’t know why — and this probably goes against many dermatologists and beauty guru’s advice — I don’t feel like putting any products on my skin. I just feel like letting my skin breathe…
Let your skin breathe…
Yes! Like people would say — oh, after you exfoliate you should definitely put on toner, serum, moisturiser — all the main steps. But I just don’t FEEL like it. I feel like my body WANTS to BREATHE — does that make sense?
I guess so? It just feels more… light?
Yeah, maybe that’s what it is… but I once worked with a Beauty Lady — she looked very young for her age. She was probably around mid-40s when we worked together, and her face, really was so beautiful, she looked around mid-20s. And when I told her about my need to “let my skin breathe” she was horrified!
(Laughing)
She said, “Do you see this?!” And drew a circle around her own face with her hand and index finger pointing, “This is a 12-step routine that I have NEVER skipped. Morning and night for the past 20 years. Even if I have a drunken night out, even if the kids are driving me crazy — THIS — never skips the 12-step routine. And this is how I look like I’m still in my 20s!!!”
(Cackling)
It’s funny to you?!?!!
(Nodding) She’s kind of dramatic…
Yeah. I guess she was… but she had the face to back up her story. She was beautiful! And she just swore by her routine…
Well, good for her! You don’t have to do that.
Yeah… I don’t think I can even if I wanted to. I just don’t have it in me to be that vigilent about skincare routines… And I want my skin to BREATHE. Sometimes I just want to let my skin BREATHE…
(Nodding) I get what you mean… What other skincare products do you like? I don’t think we’ve talked about that in more specific details…
Hmm… well… aspirationally?
Aspirationally?
Well — I like Tatcha but I’ve never bought it… I always just go into Mecca Australia to try it, but I never buy it. It’s so expensive.
It’s a Japanese brand?
Yeah… I think so…
Do you like Drunk Elephant?
How do you know about Drunk Elephant?
Wasn’t there a lot of Tik Toks about it a while ago? That’s why it suddenly popped into my head…
Well — I’ve tried it. It was okay… but there are cheaper dupes at Kmart.
Oh?!
Yeah. I’ve tried both. Dupes are just as good and only like, $6 AUD. (Chuckles)
Wow! That’s good to know…
What do you want to try from Tatcha?
Hmmm… let me go have a look at their website and daydream…
(Laughing)
What?! Are you going to buy it for me?!!?
(Shrugs shoulders) Depends…
Depends on what?!
Depends on your list!!! Just type it out first!!!
(Laughing) Hmm…
- The Camellia Cleansing Oil
- The Rice Polish: Classic
- The Essence
- The Silk Serum
- The Dewy Skin Cream
- The Indigo Calming Cream
- The Indigo Overnight Repair
- Ageless Revitalizing Neck Cream
- The Silk Peony
- Indigo Soothing Hand Cream
- Indigo Soothing Body Butter
- Ageless Enriching Renewal Cream
(Cackling to himself about this list)
What’s so funny!?!?
Is that NOT a 12-step program for your skin?!?!?!!?! There’s 12 products in this list!
No — 2 of those products are body products! And also — I wouldn’t be using them all at once every single night. There’ll be alternating variations of different combinations of those products!!!
Oh… okay…
You have no idea the mastery that was involved with the decisions to form that list. I’m not going to explain on this blog. But that was a PERFECT LIST for MY SKIN.
Okay… I trust you… know what you’re listing…
I didn’t even add Brightening products to the list, otherwise it might even be 15 products?!
You want brightening products?
I’m not sure… do you think I need them?
No.
Okay then… I won’t get them… I don’t need them…
You definitely don’t need brightening products. I like your natural skin tone.
It changes depending on how much sun I’ve had…
That’s okay. I like it natural — whatever it is — with the weather — I like it as it is. You don’t need to “brighten” or try to make it “whiter” with bleaching type of products — I loathe this about Asian beauty standards…
Yeah… you can’t use brightening products on your pustular acne, it’s too irritating…
Yeah… it’s probably what CAUSED the pustular acne when I was younger…
You think it just rubbed off your… epithelium?
What is an epithelium?
It’s the top layer of skin…
Oh… maybe?
Yeah, if you exfoliate too much, or if you use “bleaching” type of brightening products, you can cause irritation or worse to your epithelium and then it’s gonna cause acne of all sorts — sebaceous, pustular… etc….
Right… well.. yeah, maybe that’s what happened to me when I was younger…
It usually heals though — if you just give your skin a rest. Let it BREATHE…
For how long?
I don’t know, maybe a few days or a few weeks? Okay, I’m not a dermatologist so don’t take any of this seriously.
Right… I’ll keep up my regular visits to my dermatologist — you don’t know what you’re saying.
(Nodding) Exactly!
This is a fictional blog.
