It’s interesting to me — I mean, I have staff — they’re working like this?! Sort of?! In a way? In a metaphor? But I’m their “boss” and I don’t even know how it really feels? You’re saying it’s melancholic, its Bossa Nova — it makes sense but it also doesn’t make any sense to me at all.
Why is this bothering you…?
You know what it’s like for me to be back stage because you’ve been a performer. You know what it’s like to be back stage, alone — without any cameras — in your own dressing room.
(Nodding) Yeah, I do.
But I don’t know what it’s like to be alone — as a corporate office worker.
That’s okay…?
How do you think I would go?
Honestly? (Chuckling) I think you’d quit on your first day…
Really?!?!!
Yes, you’ll be like Helly in the show Severance — “I want out” — and then you’ll reach that stairwell and you’ll just keep going. You’ll go back to doing exactly what you are doing now.
Really?! You think my fate was always that set?
Yes… your talents… your musical brain… you don’t need a job in Corporate — anywhere.
…
You mentioned that only another musician who had previously worked corporate would be able to write a song about it… I don’t know many musicians who’ve previously worked corporate jobs, do you?
(Nodding) Well, we don’t really keep in touch, we’re not Facebook friends or anything like that… but I do know of one… local Gold Coaster…
Who? How do you know of them?
She was the wife of one of the guys from yoga teacher training… she was a musician and she’s also worked corporate… or maybe she is still in Corporate Australia now… but she’s been a musician — like on stage, musician — not your genre. But yeah…
Did she used to talk about it?
A little bit, but not much — we’re not super close friends. But it was briefly mentioned… we know she’s very talented at playing keyboard, maybe she did write some songs… but now, I think she is still working in Corporate Australia… I’m not sure, either…
So they do exist?
(LOL) Of course they do! Why wouldn’t they?
Because people rarely write songs about work… it’s always about love. It’s rarely about work… Dolly Parton, “Working 9 to 5” — what was that?! That was a joke to all corporate workers?! What was it?!?!
It was a fun… jingle? I don’t know…
I want to know more about this… but I don’t have these experiences…
It’s like giving birth. Once you’ve done it, you can’t not remember it… are you sure you would ever want to be in that situation? With everything that you’ve earned, achieved — now — are you sure? You want to start from the bottom as an office intern?
I don’t know… I wonder if my bros and I could make a vlog about it…
It still wouldn’t be the real experience. If you’re like “office interns” for a day or a week. In front of cameras — it’s not the same. But it’s similar. It could be humorous — yeah, maybe that is about as close as you could ever get to the real experience.
Have you seen comedy skits like this?
Yes of course! Conan O’Brien used to do it all the time. Those clips should still be on YouTube…?
(Nodding) Nice… I’ll look it up… after I finish watching Severance…
And go do your CONCERT!
Yeah… I suppose I better get back to focusing on that…
I love you
I love you, too… xoxoxoxoxox
