Curious Fans (CF)

CF 1: Why do I feel like… she doesn’t love him as much as he loves her?

CF2: No. She definitely does love him as much as he loves her. She’s just expressing it in a different way. They both love each other equally. It’s equal. But also right now, they’re still in the “chase” so the guy is putting in way more effort. He might relax more after they’re actually married?!

CF3: Yeah like, why do they keep calling each other husband and wifey?! They’re not married! They’re not even physically dating?! It’s all in their imaginations?

CF1: It’s a cultural thing, you wouldn’t get it. Many Asian cultures, the cute happy couple — it’s very middle school, actually. They’re like both super old Millennials acting like loved up teenagers.

CF2: Gosh, isn’t that so embarrassing for them?!

CF4: I think they’re beyond the age where they care about what is or what isn’t embarrassing. I think they’re just doing it this way because they’re also aware of the tipping point with us fans. There could be a line — for cancellation — and he’s tip-toeing on the edge of that line.

CF1: He REALLY doesn’t GIVE A FUCK?! He’s just… he’s just being himself!? Now we can kind of see… his “characters” as well… and he doesn’t care?!

CF2: There’s not enough of us for them to care. Even their team, their staff. We’re just a minority who’s kind of, sort of… figured this out? We’re also drawing up our own conspiracy theories and when the staff read them, they’re just laughing — cos it’s so ridiculous and it shows that we “don’t” really comprehend?

CF3: Yeah, I’m confused. There’s so many Easter eggs, so many metaphors. Things that she mentions that my mind is like, “Is this ALL fiction!? Is she just a really, really creative writer?! Is she herself a delulu fan just trying to get HIS attention?!” Because none of it makes any sense.

CF4: I’m sure there’s some Truths here but we don’t know any of them personally, so we wouldn’t be able to know what’s true and what’s her exaggerated fiction. So we, as readers, basically have to take it all as fiction.

CF5: Yeah I work in publishing, this is all fiction. Any publisher will look at this manuscript and say, “Oh yeah, this is fiction. It’s cute, it’s funny. It’s rom com.” Let’s edit it — it won’t be even like 80% of the blog. There’s too much to sift through. And they’ll wittle it down into a rom com book.

CF1: It’s kind of cool, though. I can’t wait to read it. A Millennial woman who falls in love with a genre pop star?! I mean? I do kind of want to live vicariously through her lens. (Giggles)

CF2: Yeah. It’s funny. I like her writing. Maybe we can appreciate it for what it is. Apply our own delulu. Whichever pop star we WISH we were dating… and just imagine our own dialogues with them?

All the CFs: (Giggles) That’s the fun of it. We’re not toxic fans, we’re just reading and comparing and then imagining our own fantasies. (More giggling!)
