I think it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t have to be that complicated. I’ve tested this. I’ve already walked around Gold Coast without any disguises, throughout different times of the day, around different popular tourist spots. I don’t get recognised.

It’s only when I go to the more Asian restaurant areas, then people start turning heads and wondering, “Is that…?” But I haven’t even been approached. Nobody’s confronted me to ask if I am Common Name. But if they did, sure, I could say something like making up a whole back story of a different person. Or I could just say, “Yes it’s me, but it’s my day off. Please, no pictures.” Something like that.

I’d be happy to sign something, if they want something signed. But I don’t want any pictures while I’m here because it is personal time, it’s not work time. I’m just here relaxing like any other tourist on my personal holiday.

Oh… I was already making up elaborate stories and characters in my head, like you could even be a JAPANESE guy… and have a JAPANESE NAME… and…

(Laughing) Is that what you WANT?! You want me to pretend to be a JAPANESE GUY?! So you can walk around with a JAPANESE BOYFRIEND?!?!?!?!

(Cackling!) Okay but like, Selena Gomez is the most gracious celebrity with fans and their pictures. I actually think it’s nice that if you get spotted — take a picture with them!

Yes. That’s my opinion. But I’m not part of that world. From my perspective, what’s the harm? Where’s the harm? I honestly don’t understand this right now. Because I see Selena doing it, and she’s lovely. So that’s just my perspective right now.

Yes. And the friend went to say hi to them, and they just smiled and said, “Sorry, no pictures. We’re on holidays.” They even had sunglasses on, my friend was a superfan! (LOL)

She’s not even living on Gold Coast. She happened to be visiting as well, on HER holidays… she was so delighted! Just to have that little bit of interaction. She wasn’t bummed out that she didn’t get a picture. She was just really grateful and happy. It made her whole holidays! She was so happy, like a giddy little child, just to have that tiny bit of an interaction. She’s not a toxic fan — she’s a superfan. She’ll keep that memory with her in her heart for the rest of her life.
