What are you doing tomorrow?
Well, technically I’m typing this at “tomorrow” from yesterday, it is 2:22 am exactly as I am typing this sentence.
If I didn’t have to work, I think I would have liked a Sunday morning stroll at the markets… there’s one outside the Arts Centre in Bundall. Oh, it’s not called the Arts Centre anymore. That’s my 90s kid brain remembering it as the Arts Centre.
But yeah, I have to work. So I’ll do that tomorrow.
I miss you already. What do you think I should do, if, say, for whatever reason, I might be lurking around… Gold Coast? While you’re working?
(LOL)
Why don’t you try the Sunday markets? It’s dog friendly. And there’s food stalls for breakfast. Coffee trucks for good coffee. There’s a lot of people… parking is hard to find if you get there too late. Not sure if the art gallery is open, or if you can go upstairs to Level 5, there is a nice view there. Day and night. There is also a café/bar.
Sounds like you hang out there a lot?!
No. Not a lot. But yes, been there a few times with friends.
Is the food any good?
Well… I can’t remember if it was particularly bad… so I guess it was alright?
Can’t remember if it was particularly bad… LOL… but wouldn’t you remember it if it was particularly good?
Yes. I guess so. I mean, okay, it’s alright. For that price. I’m already thinking of another memory that is a story of how my friends and I discovered it.
Oh? Do tell!
Well… it was for a friend’s birthday. She wanted a nice restaurant. So we got to the ground floor restaurant there. It was very expensive — we didn’t even look at the prices before we booked! Oops! — Then we got there, sat down, table of… 8? I think? All Millennials. But then, we opened up the menu, GOBSMACKED. I was thinking, “Surely it’s a big plate, for this price…” So we all ordered our mains. JUST mains. We didn’t even bother with entrees or the bill would’ve been higher.
The boyfriend of the friend — was the worst! He was IN. SHOCK. He was like, “HOW DID WE END UP BOOKING THIS PLACE?” And then… when the mains arrived… he was so shocked he was crying with laughter! Because it was such a small serving size! And the waitress took SO MUCH TIME to explain how GOURMET and AMAZING the food was. And he was laughing hysterically when she left! “ALL OF THAT. FOR THIS PRICE?!?!” It was really, really funny in the moment.
And then, we were ALL STILL HUNGRY! — How embarrassing for this restaurant. I don’t mean it like that. — They do have a “Set Menu” that you can get for a more affordable price, especially if you had tickets to a show — we didn’t have tickets to a show. We didn’t get that package. We just saw a Tik Tok about the restaurant and booked. We had no idea what else was available for its regular customers!
So anyway, somehow, I don’t know how, we just thought, “Is there a café still open nearby?” Somebody must’ve googled it. I don’t remember who. But it was discovered, “There is another night time bar/café on level 5 of this building.” Okay. So we go up. We were STILL. HUNGRY. And the café people were SO NICE. They served us pizza, chips, lattes. Whatever we wanted to fill up our bellies — at an affordable price. We WERE satisfied. And we even cut the friend’s birthday cake there. (Oh yeah, forgot to mention the expensive restaurant would’ve charged for that too! And the boyfriend said, “NO WAY!”)
(Chuckles) This sounds like fun.
It was. It was a lot of fun. And the night time views were really great. We just sat around, talked, laughed — Millennial friends.
(Chuckles) Hmm. I’m wondering… what do you mean about the 90s kid Arts Centre thing?
Well, in my high school… back in those days… our musicals were performed there. It was called the Arts Centre back then.
