Chinese New Year (Mum’s Side)

I don’t fucking know the actual Chinese word for what they are — LOL. Like if they say it, I hear it, I know it. I can’t type it. I can’t even “spell it” out with zhuyin. I just… I don’t know it.

But Mum’s side was always the FUN SIDE…

So many LOUD COUSINS at one time.

So much FOOD and GAMES and TOYS.

(This was early childhood, it does change… throughout the years)…

Early childhood — people would play card games, sing karaoke… lots of drinking… some Uncles smoking…

Grandmother on Mum’s side was Cancerian. Her star sign. She always embraced me with the warmest hugs. And was determined to feed me. “Eat! Eat more food! EAT!!!”

… I can’t remember much else about the early childhood Chinese New Years on this side… also, it was different days. Like it was the same Chinese New Year week, we just visited different families on different days… also the last post was older, this one is younger… the meeting with Dad’s side in early childhood…? I’m not sure if I’m ready to talk about that — nothing weird or sinister it’s just… more… colder, more distant… I didn’t have anything to do yet, for the whole family, as a child. I was just… there. Someone had recently passed away… the mood was more sombre… two very different Chinese New Years in the same week. All the time…
