The News

Yes, my Love? You still feel like talking tonight?

Yes. I want to know… have you been watching the news lately?

No. I haven’t. I’ve been here, writing these… and going to work, and grocery shopping, and… mostly writing all this! This is taking up all my time. And Pinterest… and household chores.

You don’t know anything about what’s going on in the news?

I have skimmed through some headlines, sometimes I just scroll headlines. But I’m not clicking into anything.

Ahh. So you’re not completely unaware, but you’re not going into the details.

I feel like I am mostly unaware… and I’m not going into the details.

Why? Are you consuming too much news?

Maybe I am

Maybe you need a NEWS DETOX. It’s like a technology detox, but you just avoid the news. I’m not the first person to suggest this. There was a time I was really caught up in a lot of the sensationalist media, and I was messaging another friend, and she suggested it. And then, I stopped watching the news and clicking on things for a few days. And I realised — nothing bad has happened. My life just keeps going as it is. I don’t need all these news updates, every day.

Hmmm. Interesting

But that’s my life. It’s simple… maybe it’s not practical for other professions.

(Nodding, smiling…) I wish I had your innocence.

(Eyerolling…) What innocence?!!?!

Don’t worry. Don’t watch the news. Stay happy. In Australia. It’s peaceful there.

(Weird expression)… yes…? Okay….?

I’ll try to follow the news less… I don’t want to get caught up in it either.

Okay… just skim the headlines, literally, that’s all you need. And you don’t need to click on any of it. Don’t you have staff who could give you the summary?!

LOL… yes, yes I do

Let them tell you, if anything is direly important. And if it sounds really suss, then you click on it and read it for yourself. Get a few more details. Do more research.

(Nodding)… yes, that’s a good idea.

Your welcome. I Love You 🙂
