Why’s there so many layers to Taiwanese communication?

LOL… isn’t that almost all Asian cultures? Maybe even ALL cultures? Isn’t there layers in your culture’s communication?

Yes. But I know how to navigate those. I am usually good with any other culture as well… I don’t know why… Taiwanese make me feel, a little, confused… a little unsteady… I can’t fully grasp it yet.

There’s nothing to grasp… Let me discuss our history (as told by… various influences in my life… NOT Wikipedia or Google… so… go fact check, cos… I could be wrong!)…

Approximately more than 200 or 250 years ago… no, wait, rewind…

The earliest people — were not Chinese — they were Indigenous.

And then, approximately 200 or 250 or maybe even 300 years ago by now, I’m not sure… the mainland Chinese people — just like Caucasity colonizers — made their way over, to the Island…

And, of these people… one of them, was my great- great- great- (however many greats) -grandfather… who got kicked out of the Imperial court (LOL)… he was a scammer. He did something bad and naughty. I don’t know what. But it’s sort of like how Australians are descended from convicts.

This grandfather ancestor — got kicked out of the mainland, and had to continue his lineage, in Taiwan.

Also, his last name — got divided into other groups — or something, I’m not sure. It’s like, you might sound like you have the same last name — but you’re actually from different clans. I don’t know what that’s about. There was something about different clans, fighting, then allies formed, then last names adopted — because of the friendships — so it’s not a biological lineage, of the same last name. But rather a camaraderie — and then, it becomes the same clan.

LOL…………… is this confusing?!

Yes. Very

WELL GO GOOLE OR WIKIPEDIA COS I’M NOT GOOD AT EXPLAINING THIS!!! LOL…

(Smiling, but not sure what to say)

Anyway — that was ONE parent’s side of the story…

The OTHER parent — doesn’t have a criminal background. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA………………………………..

They have… other not-so-perfect traits… and… we’ll talk about that face to face.

So, allegedly, Dutch people colonized Taiwan for a bit as well.

Allegedly — I might have Dutch ancestry as well. It’s been an “explanation” for… “The natural nose”…

Does that have much to do with melanin? I don’t know…

And then there was the Japanese occupation…

And my grandfather… learned Kung Fu underground… and went to Japanese school… and there were some who hoped for the AMERICAN SAVIOURS…! (Hallelujah!)

Okay, I can see how Taiwanese can be confusing to people who aren’t from Taiwan.

There’s a LOT of intertwining cultures and ancestry.

…….. Yes……… Is that an explanation, in your mind? About the many layers?

(Nodding)… yes… I kind of get it… now… I think I would like to visit more often, though. To really grasp this

Yeah like, I’m NOT the best explainer about any of this. Go to a museum or read a book. I am not about to make this blog like… any kind of factually reliable information for people to reference!

I think my point was… there’s many layers because there is a long, long history of being “taken advantage of” — so the defensiveness is honed in. There’s always a guard up. “Oooh… slow down, there, tiger… who do you think you are…?”
