Hypotheticals

Mum: “What?! Why are you so mad at me?”

Dad, in the kitchen, slightly oblivious.

Daughter: “Hypothetically… you wouldn’t let me marry someone who didn’t graduate high school?”

Mum: “Are you’re blaming me?!”

Dad: “What’s wrong with someone who didn’t graduate high school? Is he a hard worker?”

Mum: “I’m trying to protect her! If you marry someone who didn’t even graduate high school, what is he going to do with his life?”

Dad: “If he’s a hard worker, that’s okay. If he’s not a hard worker, if he’s lazy, then it’s concerning. If he’s a hard worker, he can make money doing anything. Go mow someone’s lawn. Go fix someone’s curtains. If he’s hard working, and willing to work, it’s alright. There’s always money to be made.”

Daughter: (sighs)… “Well it’s a hypothetical anyway cos that person doesn’t exist.”

Mum: “So why are you ANGRY at ME?!?!?! Do you want me to apologize? Do you need me to apologize?!?! I’m sorry, Daughter. I’m sorry. Fine. Your Dad doesn’t have a problem with it. Go marry someone who didn’t graduate high school. If anything happens, do you feel confident you can be the breadwinner in your relationship? If me and Dad aren’t here to help you with anything? You can carry the load for the two of you?!”

Daughter: “………. It’s just a hypothetical question you’re being so dramatic……”
