Couples’ Contempt

Working in retail… I have to admit it, and it’s not like I’m asking to experience or witness this. Sometimes, couples are arguing VERY LOUDLY so as a staff that’s just walking by doing staff things, you can’t help but hear their conversation.

I didn’t want to hear it. It definitely feels like, “Ya’ll need a… marriage counselor?!”

It’s sad. My heart genuinely felt very sad. The energies were so heavy, so bad. Like, “Woah… these two don’t even LIKE each other… why are they TOGETHER?!!?!?”

It feels… I don’t know. I just felt like, “I DON’T want that.” I don’t want to be in a couple and feel contempt for my partner. I don’t want to be in a couple that’s miserable.

I’m PERFECTLY HAPPY ALONE!!!

How can my life be WORSE if I’m in a couple?! That doesn’t sound like a good deal.

I don’t care if the person chasing me is PEOPLE MAGAZINE’S SEXIEST MAN OF THE YEAR. If we end up bickering in public spaces like those kind of unhappy couples?!?!?

DONE. OUT OF HERE. I don’t want to live like that. It sounds so miserable…

It’s one thing to have relationship issues and address them — behind closed doors. It’s another to bring it out into public spaces with seemingly no awareness of your surrounds.

I can’t do it. I wasn’t raised like this. It doesn’t compute.

It feels… I don’t know how to describe how it feels. I just don’t want that. It’s sad…
