Safe Word: Domingo

Safe Word: Domingo

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH…………..

*ahem*

Before we blurt out too much to each other face to face, upon catching up… we need to establish our safe words.

It’s not just for the bedroom. Our emotional bodies need protection too.

If you’re going too far down a rabbit hole and I don’t want to offend you but I need you to stop, I’m going to say the word, “Domingo.”

It’s funny, I guess?

Yes, I love Domingo — SNL skit with Ariana Grande.

It’s just a funny name. A “snap out of it” word for me, and hopefully for you too. That you can be reminded, that is our safe word, that means I’m not ready to listen further. I’m not ready to go down that rabbit hole. I can’t hold space for that right now, because it’s triggering something in me and I know I won’t show a good side of myself if you keep discussing this topic.

Just give me a little bit of space.

Domingo is like a breather. A bit of light laughter. Let’s take a break from this conversation. Let’s change trajectory… rather than “Shut up and kiss me” which suppresses the rest of what needed to be acknowledged.

Domingo is an acknowledgement. I hear you — but I’m not ready.

And, respectfully, you’ll have to drop it for the time being.

I will react the same too, for you. What do you want to be your safe word for me?

Glinda? Elphaba?

It’s a bit like, “Shut up, Karen, please!”

Just give me a name for a safe word that I can acknowledge. I can be disarmed. I can stop. I can drop it. I can take a breather, for your sake.

Cos it’s gonna be rough waters… oh these Millennials with their cobwebs.

I don’t think we’ll even finish going over absolutely everything in a mere 12 months.

It’ll simply unravel in its own time.

And we need to acknowledge and accept, and agree upon the safe words before we begin.
